Carlow University Now Offering Master of Education in Art Education and Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education Programs at the RLA
April 24, 2013
Carlow University is offering a Master of Education in Art Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education at the Regional Learning Alliance (RLA) this fall.
The master’s degree in Art Education with K-12 certification is a 36-credit program that prepares students for obtaining Pennsylvania state certification in art education (if not already certified). The program strives to develop competent and compassionate professional art educators. The degree can be completed at the RLA in two years, attending one night per week.
Graduates of the program will:
- Produce artwork demonstrating advanced, professional-level skills and concepts in at least one art medium of choice;
- Integrate studio, art history, art criticism, and aesthetics into well-conceived, theory-based curriculum development projects;
- Integrate current learning and psychology of art theories into applications for the classroom;
- Integrate theories and best practices derived from art therapy into classroom experiences for all students;
- Formulate and execute focused, in-depth personal learning projects in the areas of art content and art education.
The bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education prepares students, through knowledge of developmental theory and appropriate practices, to work with children from birth through age 10. They are prepared for working and teaching in diverse settings: public and private preschool and child care, primary grades (kindergarten through 4th grade), corporate, hospital, and nonprofit centers. This degree takes two years to complete, attending one day a week. Qualified applicants must have an Early Childhood associate degree to apply.
Carlow University will continue to offer classes in the highly popular Carlow Accelerated Program (CAP) format. Classes are offered one time a week, three hours in length, for eight weeks. This allows us to have two, eight-week sessions in a semester, giving students the opportunity to double the number of credits they can take.
